The final boss battle is not usually where you expect yourself to end up when demoing a new game or DLC for an existing title. But while attending PAX Prime this year, that’s exactly what I found myself doing when checking out the upcoming Halloween-themed content for Borderlands 2, TK Baha’s Bloody Harvest when I came face-to-face with Jacques O’Lantern.
Jacques is an animated pumpkin head with a body made of plant debris that spits napalm and can summon little pumpkinhead minions to attack you. The minions have the added ability to hop up on Jacques body and heal him. If you do manage to take out the first incarnation of the boss, you’ll have to take on his even tougher to defeat giant flying head. It’s a tough battle, even for an experienced vault hunter, but it wasn’t the only new item of interest in the upcoming DLC.
During the fight the Pumplings drop pieces of candy that provide temporary buffs to players like health, attack increases, shield boosts and a few random ones as well to help even the odds against the creepy, delightfully difficult new boss. And if you do manage to defeat the dude, you’ll get his head as a wearable item. Along with the fashionable Jacques head, new spooky and gothic skins will be added to wardrobes of your favorite vault hunters to get into the spirit of the season, such as a Skeleton costume for Zer0.
Boss fights aren’t the only thing players can look forward to, but for now we’re left waiting to hang out with everyone’s favorite blind, old zombie, T.K. Baha. His bloody harvest is the first of a planned series of “Headhunter” themed packs and you can expect its launch in October for download.
The new DLC will not be part of the existing season pass. Still, I will take any excuse I can get to go back to Pandora for some loot hunting and level capping. Gearbox's next round of content is looking to be on par with everything else they’ve released for Borderlands 2 so far, so there’s a good chance you’ll see me playing this come release time.
