Earlier this week we went over the new Virtual Reality training center, including Infantry changes and some weapon changes. This week we're going to go over the changes that happened to vehicles, UI/Map/Respawn and Facility changes. There is still more, hard to believe I know.
Vehicle horns can now be heard from a greater distance. This is a good thing but kind of neutral at the same time. A lot of players are not using their horns since they're talking with their outfit. So there's no major reason to honk your horn. It can mostly be used to do a playful warning to the enemy. They'll hear the tiny squeak of the Flash and then all these tanks come over the ridge. This may honestly be useful with distractions from other directions.
The Magrider has had some movement improvements.
Torque increased on all ground vehicles. This will give a higher top speed when driving up inclines.
Vehicles will no longer continue to drive themselves after the pilot exists. Now I don't quite understand what they mean by this. Do they mean that the moment I get out of my ground vehicle it's going to stop moving? Even at top speeds? If that's true, I think that's kinda dumb. No longer will you be able to put C4 on your Flash and go top speed, jump off and blow it up in the enemies faces. But there were sometimes where you'd get off while turning and it would continue to turn until it hit something. If that's actually the fix then this is a good thing.
There are quite a few vehicle damage changes, but I won't touch on those here. If you want to check those out in particular, head over to the patch notes.
Items you already own now have a strikethrough. This should have been in when the game came out. It was a pain in the ass going back and forth or trying to remember what items you already had before buying a new item.
The Platoon Management window now has Drag and Drop functionality. This will make it much much easier for Platoon leaders to move players to new squads based on location and what they are trying to do at that time.
Respawn and Map Screen Revamp
Instant action is now a single button. You will not be hot-dropped into combat without picking where you want to go. They did this to prevent people from exploiting instant action as an organizational tool. If you are in a squad, and are not the leader, another button for squad deploy will appear. This is a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing because the button will now be used for it's purpose and enemies can no longer just drop into action with their rest of their outfit. The curse is now we can no longer just drop into action with the rest of our outfit.
Wow, that's a lot of stuff
You're right. That's one huge patch. And this is only the big things that stick out. Please head over to the patch notes on Planetside 2's site for all of the information that you did not read here.
Overall, this patch is great. A lot of things are fixed. This was the patch to patch things, pun intended. Some things were broken or not working properly and now they aren't. SoE really is going above and beyond some other MMO's to make sure that their game is how it's supposed to be. They're also still listening to the community on big changes to the game and even small ones too. As long as they keep this up, this game is going to do nothing but grow.
Think there's something that should/shouldn't be changed? Make sure you submit bug reports and check out the Roadmap. No crying if something happened that you didn't like. You may have had a say in it. Now you don't because you wanted to watch that episode of Family Guy. During the commercials, hit up the forums and the Roadmap. This is what does/is going to set PlanetSide 2 apart from other MMO's and FPS's.
